Lipău - The Orthodox Church of “Archangels St. Michael and Gabriel”

Available in:
The church was built on the site of the old wooden church, in 1836. From the old church, mentioned in 1650, only the stone altar was kept. The hailstorm which destroyed the entire crop in 1836 was considered by the locals as divine punishment for demolishing the old church. The new church was built in baroque style, and it has a square tower with a rounded steeple. A characteristic of the façade is the presence of the two niches, on both sides of the main entrance. These niches were used to store the men’s hats during the mass. The iconostasis suggests a modest elegance given by the white columns with golden capitals which hold the whole screen. (DB).
