Nadişu Hododului - The Calvinist Church

The church is mentioned in the Register of Oradea, in the 13th century. The village had a stone church without tower and cemetery in the 15th century. The present church probably reuses a part of the old edifice. The polygonal sanctuary, the buttresses and the proportions of the edifice gives the impression of a medieval church. The community of the village converted to the Calvinism during the 16th century, but it functioned as a filia of the Hodod parish until 1763. The nave was extended towards the south, and in the front of the door a porch was built with tympanum in 1841. According to an inscription on the southern wall, the monumental tower was built in classic style, in 1857, and it has an onion shaped steeple and a lantern. According to an inscription, the stone pulpit decorated with carved floral motifs was made by Dávid Sipos, in 1753. On the ceiling with cassettes, the coat of arms of the Wesselényi and Dégenfeld families are painted, but, during the last reparation, it was modified to great extent. The organ was made in 1843 by an anonymous craftsman. The bells were made in Bucharest, in 1959, an in 1960. (TSz).
