Sărăuad - The Orthodox Church of “St. Gregory, the Theologian”

The construction of the church was started at the initiative of Bishop Grigorie Maior (1715–1785), who financed the whole work. Grigorie Maior was born in Sărăuad, and was consecrated Bishop of Blaj at the Imperial Court of Vienna, in the presence of Empress Maria Teresa, on the 23rd of April, 1773. Bishop Grigorie Maior was outstanding because of his persistence to found many schools and churches, and making considerable donations for this purpose. The church of Sărăuad was built in 1777, it has a single nave, a semicircular apse, and a tower above the nave. On the tower, semicircular windows are opened on each side. Under every window there is a round window, lighting the first level of the tower. The outside walls of the building are plastered in white. (DB).
